Calgary Open Martial Arts Championship (COMAC)

Calgary's premier annual martial arts tournament, hosted by Capicio Zen Karate and Kickboxing. COMAC brings together competitors of all ages and skill levels for a weekend of kata, point sparring, kickboxing, weapons, and team events — sanctioned by the Canadian Zen Karate Association and featuring official WKC qualifying divisions.

About COMAC

The Calgary Open Martial Arts Championships has been a cornerstone of Alberta's martial arts community since its founding in 2018. Hosted annually by Capicio Zen Karate and Kickboxing, COMAC is designed to give competitors from all schools and styles a professionally run, welcoming tournament experience.

The two-day event is hosted in April and features a full range of divisions including kata, point sparring, continuous kickboxing, weapons, and team events. COMAC also serves as an official WKC qualifying event. This provides a pathway for Alberta athletes to earn placement on Team Alberta and advance toward National and International competition through the World Karate Commission.

Registration and live brackets are managed through Smoothcomp software, giving athletes, coaches, and spectators real-time access to schedules, results, and standings throughout the weekend.

Styles & Divisions

Competitors may choose to participate in COMAC divisions, WKC qualifying divisions, or both.

  • COMAC divisions are open to competitors from any province and include forms, point sparring, weapons, team events, and light kickboxing.

  • WKC Qualifier divisions provide Alberta athletes with the opportunity to qualify for Team Alberta, advancing toward National and International competition through the World Karate Commission (WKC). Placement in WKC divisions is the only pathway to Nationals and Worlds.

This dual-division format allows athletes to maximize mat time while choosing the level of competition that best fits their goals.
